Obama vs McCain – Which Website wins?

With so much of the Internet world focused on these two candidates, I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring. And as a self-proclaimed Internet propeller head, that hat would look something like this:

Instead of ranting and raving about the issues and which man is right for the job, I’m going to make my determination like any good techie would…by his Website of course! So without further ado, I will attempt to take an unbiased look at these two fine gentlemen’s Websites and may the best Website win!

I will rate them on five different categories, all having to do with aesthetics, usability and their ability to get their message across.

I’ve added snapshots of both of their Home pages below for clarification.

The first category is color pollution. This is the ability to use a few (less than three) primary colors to make your Website attractive and vibrant without overdoing it and giving your eyes too many things to look at. The last thing you want to do is take away from the most important thing on a Website: … READ MORE

Use Gmail and Yahoo Mail and save yourself headaches

My father has been using the same email for his business for seven years. The problem is he’s been using an email that was given to him from his phone company. All of his clients and vendors know him by that email address and changing it would result in mass confusion and he could potentially lose customers over it. A few years ago, he decided to move from dial-up to DSL and was told he had to keep the dial-up connection in order to not lose his email address. So he’s been paying a monthly payment just to hold on to that email. Now, he wants to switch companies to a better service providor, but his email holds him hostage.

So what can you learn from my dear ol’ dad? Use a Gmail or Yahoo email address and free yourself from being tied to a phone, cable or internet company. Both email services are free and allow you plenty of storage for emails and attachements. You can also have them brought down to your Outlook or Outlook Express on your computer if you so choose.

To Greater Success!

The eBoot Camp book to be published by a major publisher!

As many of you know, I’ve been working hard over the past year to take all of the content from our successful eBoot Camp workshops and put them in a book. Well I received some great news that one of the top business publishers in the world has offered to publish the book. The reason I have not mentioned their name yet is we have not finalized the deal. As soon as we do, I’ll share their name and when the book will be launched with all of you.

What pleases me most is that this will provide the opportunity for the benefits of the eBoot Camp to help so many small business owners realize more opportunities and profits through the power of the web. That’s why we started doing this years ago and the momentum is growing. I’ll keep you posted!

thanks to all for their support and good wishes.

best,

How Much Should I Pay for a Website?

The question small business owners ask me more than any other is, “How much should I pay for a Website?”

My response to this question is always the same: “What are you looking to accomplish online?” I ask this because price can’t even be considered until the clients needs are fully understood. If a Web designer gives you a price before asking you what you want to achieve online, I recommend that you proceed with extreme caution. Depending on the goals you’ve set for your site and the needs of your customers, the fee can range from literally nothing to several thousand dollars.

There are actually two different types of Websites, each with its own purpose. The Website you’re probably most familiar with is called a “multi-paged” site. It usually consists of six to eight pages with a homepage and sub-pages such as “About Us,” “Maps and Directions,” “Contact Us,” etc. This is the site that most businesses use.

The other site is called a “one-page Website,” or “brochure site,” and its purpose is usually just to sell products or services. You’ve undoubtedly seen this type of site when surfing on the Internet. It’s quite distinguishable by its long length and … READ MORE
